10 uses of lavender essential oil on the skin
Lavender essential oil is an excellent beauty product for skincare, thanks to the soothing, antiseptic, and purifying properties that this essence enjoys. In this article, you will discover 10 ways to use lavender oil for the care and beauty of your skin.
The noblest and most-used lavender oil for the skin’s beauty is that of real lavender, extracted from Lavender Angustifolia, a variety of lavender that grows in the hilly and pre-mountainous areas of Provence and the Mediterranean area.
The essence of true lavender has, above all, soothing and healing properties on the skin. It is widely used because it is well-tolerated, and it is one of the few essential oils that can be applied pure on the skin and diluted in vegetable oils.

1. Soothe irritated and red skin
The soothing action is the main active function of real lavender oil, which we recommend diluting in a little vegetable oil to be spread directly on the areas to be treated. For example, for 50 ml of almond oil, add 10 drops of lavender essence.
2. Against dermatitis
In the case of dermatitis on the skin, you can dilute 10 drops of lavender essence in a calendula ointment to be applied three times a day on the areas to be treated. In addition to the soothing action, lavender acts as a local anti-inflammatory and significantly improves skin irritation in a few days.
3. As an antiseptic against acne
In this case, lavender essential oil acts as an antiseptic, counteracting the proliferation of local inflammations due to acne. Therefore, we recommend adding 5 drops of lavender oil and 3 drops of tea tree oil to your day cream (50 ml).
4. Against oily scalp for longer clean hair
If you have oily skin, you can use 100 ml of neutral shampoo, 10 drops of lavender essential oil, 5 drops of bergamot essential oil, and 5 drops of rosemary essential oil. Massage the shampoo on wet hair, insisting for a few minutes on the scalp to activate the active ingredients contained in the essential oils.
5. For sunburn and minor burns
After a day at the beach, it can happen, especially in summer, to burn your skin due to excessive sun exposure. Sunburns and minor burns can be treated by adding about twenty drops of lavender oil in 100 ml of Aloe Vera gel.
Before applying on the areas to be treated, we recommend you to cool the aloe Vera gel, enriched with lavender essence, directly in the refrigerator. Then, apply the gel at least three times a day and avoid exposure to the sun during this treatment.
6. As a purifying face and body
In this case, you can prepare a mask for the face or body made from ventilated green clay. In a glass bowl, put two tablespoons of ventilated green clay, add a teaspoon of sesame oil and water, just enough to obtain a creamy mixture.
Mix all the ingredients and finally add 5 drops of lavender oil. Apply to face or body, leave on for 15 minutes and rinse with warm water and the help of a sponge.
7. For relaxing massages with your partner
You can benefit from the relaxing properties of lavender essential oil through body massages. In 50 ml of jojoba oil, add 12 drops of lavender essence. Enjoy a massage of at least 30 minutes to relax the muscles and benefit from lavender oil’s extraordinary aromatherapy properties.
8. Against itching and irritation
In the case of itching on the skin, you can prepare compresses by making this simple recipe directly on the skin to relieve symptoms and irritation. First, prepare an infusion of mallow and chamomile flowers (a spoonful of mallow and a spoonful of chamomile per 50 ml water).
Add 20 ml of aloe vera gel enriched with 15 drops of lavender oil. Let cool in the refrigerator. Take clean gauze and soak them in this liquid compound. Apply it on the areas to be treated and leave it as a compress for at least half an hour. We advise you to use this remedy three times a day for two days. Store the infusion in the refrigerator.
9. As an oral disinfectant
In the case of inflammation and small abrasions of the oral cavity (aphthae, stomatitis, etc.), you can proceed with this simple remedy: in a glass of warm water, add a spoonful of baking soda, 5 drops of lavender essential oil, and 5 drops of lemon essential oil.
We recommend that you rinse twice a day, in the morning and the evening, after cleaning your teeth. In this way, essential oils will have time to act on a functional level by inflaming the oral cavity.
10. To cure your children’s milky crust
The essence of true lavender is one of the essences most used also for the care of the skin of babies and children because it has strong decongestant and soothing properties and can be used without contraindications. First, apply in a cotton ball 5 drops of sweet almond oil and a drop of lavender essence. Then, apply directly on your baby’s skin for a soothing and emollient action.
